UNEXPECTED is a 37.69m explorer-style motor yacht from the Dutch yard Heesen, a Diaship 3700 Explorer delivered in 2001. Between 2020 and 2021 she went through a significant refit. Her hull and superstructure are aluminium throughout, and for her length she carries a great deal of volume: 377 GT on an 8.4m beam. That generous interior space is one of her defining qualities.
She was built to go a long way. Twin Caterpillar engines, rated at 480 hp each, give a cruising speed of 10 knots and a maximum of 13, and her range is 5,500 nautical miles. Stabilisers work both underway and at anchor, two 90kW Northern Lights generators supply power, and her draft is 2.6m. She is classed by Lloyd's Register, commercially compliant and flagged in Luxembourg, which gives her genuine explorer credentials in her size class.

Life on board leans outdoors. The sundeck has a hot tub ringed by lounging areas and a bar, the natural place to spend an afternoon. One level down, the upper deck has a table for dining in the open air and a large lounge. Between the two, guests have a choice of social spaces in the open air.
Inside, the volume shows. Ten guests sleep in five cabins, four doubles and a twin, and the master suite includes its own office and a dressing area. The interior is by Omega, while the exterior lines are Heesen's own. Eight crew run the yacht.
That mix of space, range and a Northern European aluminium build makes UNEXPECTED a strong option for owners who want comfort, practicality and flexibility, whether she is kept for private cruising or run as a charter yacht. With her refit completed in 2021, much of that work is recent.

In 1978 the entrepreneur Frans Heesen took over an existing shipyard in Oss harbour and began producing aluminium Striker boats. A year later the 20-metre Amigo became the first yacht to carry the Heesen name. The international breakthrough came with Octopussy, which reached a record 53.17 knots in 1988. Steel came next. In 1992 the 50-metre Achiever became the first of many steel displacement yachts.
Heesen builds its yachts entirely in-house, in steel and aluminium. A 2008 expansion raised capacity to up to eight yachts a year, and an 85-metre dry dock followed in 2016. Milestones followed: Aurelia (2011), the tenth delivery in the yard's 37-metre class; the 65-metre Galactica Star (2013), its first fast displacement yacht; and Alive (2014), the first yacht in the world to use a Hull Vane.
Frans Heesen stepped back from the company in 2012. In May 2022 ownership moved to an independent foundation, and on 31 August 2023 the yard delivered its flagship, the all-aluminium 80.07-metre Genesis, formerly Project Cosmos, with exterior lines by Winch Design. On 7 April 2025 Heesen announced its full acquisition by Dutch entrepreneur and investor Laurens Last.

Frank Laupman founded Omega Architects in 1995. The studio works across yacht design, interiors and architecture from Klepperheide 22 in Druten, the Netherlands. A SuperYacht Times profile, republished on the studio's own site, says he had designed more than 120 yachts. Omega drew the exterior lines of the 65-metre Illusion, delivered in 2013 as Galactica Star, and of the 55-metre Moskito (2021). Two Heesens on our books carry its work. Lady Azul, a 39.4-metre Heesen from 2001, has exterior lines by Omega Architects. Unexpected, a 37.69-metre Heesen Diaship 3700 Explorer delivered in 2001, has interiors by Omega.
